"I love that Creighton has a brand of its own and has a town that's absorbed with Creighton basketball.

"Given how much they care about basketball here and how much I enjoyed my time at Utah State, I'm thrilled to have the chance to play in the Big East.

"A huge part of why I wanted to come to Creighton was being able to be a part of a system, culture, and team that has recently and is planning to have more success."

Creighton won the 6-foot-1 Ashworth's favor over other candidates Gonzaga, BYU, Oklahoma State, and Washington.

Coach Greg McDermott released a statement in which he expressed his excitement at welcoming Steven and his wife Peyton to the Bluejay family.

He has the 3-point shooting range and decision-making skills we were seeking for in a point guard, so that's precisely what we got.

He also has the required leadership qualities that mesh well with our returning players. We are eager for him to get on campus and don the Bluejay uniform.
