Warriors lament missed opportunities in disappointing season

The turbulent 2022-2023 season of the Golden State Warriors was finally brought to a screeching halt on Friday night by a sound defeat at the hands of the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 6, a game that the defending champions never truly looked like they had a chance of winning.

After getting off to a dominant start, 27-10, for the Lakers, the Warriors, led by Stephen Curry, staged a comeback that allowed them to claw their way back into the game and have their opportunities throughout the rest of the first half………

Golden State's season came to a rather unremarkable end despite the fact that they entered the second half with a manageable ten-point lead.

The Golden State Warriors are left to regret a series and season full of chances lost, one that actually came to a disappointing conclusion.

Coach Steve Kerr mentioned missed opportunities in games 1 and 4 against the Lakers in his remarks following his team's elimination in Game 6. In Game 4, the Warriors held a 12-point lead midway through the third quarter after Game 1 had been tied with 90 seconds left.

We would likely be preparing for a Game 7 on Sunday at the very least if Golden State had won even one of those games. We shouldn't forget that the Warriors also had an 11-point lead in the second quarter of Game 3 before the Lakers ended up with a blowout 30-point victory.

Although the Lakers deserved to win, this was a close series. The fact that one of the sixth or seventh seeds was going to make it to the Western Conference Finals in some ways sums up the entire season.

This iteration of the Warriors, according to Kerr, wasn't a championship squad. He is correct; this roster had serious ongoing problems from the start of training camp, both due to inherent problems and just plain bad luck. But not all champion teams are created equal.

There was a reason why there was still a chance for a significant playoff run right up until the very end, despite all the problems and a middling regular season record…… Although he is 35 years old, Curry is still considered to be one of the top five players in the league from an internal standpoint. When focused, Draymond Green continued to play like one of the league's top defenders, if not the best.
